Bobette and Frank Barfod

Bobette and Frank Barfod

Bobette and Frank Barfod have been pleased and grateful residents of Covenant Living at Mount Miguel since 2005. They moved to the San Diego area community for the continuum of care offered, the ministry orientation, and the people. They looked at Covenant communities in Turlock and Samarkand but felt this was the right fit for them.

"We came to live at Mount Miguel, not to die", said Bobette and Frank. They live in a modest small apartment building community and enjoy the relationships with staff and residents. They've been able to have direct discussions with Mount Miguel employees and feel like administrators and staff have looked out for their best interests, especially during the pandemic. Mostly, they appreciate feeling engaged through the many volunteer opportunities.

Bobette is a retired teacher and Frank a former engineer. Residents welcomed them in the mid-2000s and they have paid it forward by helping newer residents orient to their new home. They financially helped move a sibling into Covenant Living of Turlock and their giving spirit didn't stop there. They are big champions of global missionary programs and the Mount Miguel Benevolent Care Fund. "Supporting our friends and neighbors is the right thing to do," Bobette said. "It's about people in-need receiving support when they need it most."

Bobette and Frank have made annual donations to fund current Benevolent Care residents and a few years ago designated Mount Miguel as a beneficiary of their Individual Retirement Account (IRA). "It was really easy to give a percentage of our IRA," Bobette said. I worked with my Covenant Trust representative to complete the beneficiary designation form and after telling Liam Dunfey, Regional Director of Philanthropy, our intentions, I was invited to the annual Legacy Circle lunch. It's reassuring knowing Legacy Circle donors will help future generations of Mount Miguel residents who need Benevolent Care."
